AddVantage™ Chop Saw and Rip Scan Optimizers

AddVantage™Newnes-McGehee developed the AddVantage as a scanner to front an optimized chop saw for the rough mill, in the secondary or reman industry. It replaces marking by crayons, offers full optimization of fixed and random lengths, and increases value by more precise measuring and grading.

AddVantage scans wood with multiple technologies for precise geometric measurements and the detection of natural and manufacturing defects. By identifying and classifying grading characteristics such as wane, cracks, knots and stain, AddVantage determines the cuts which will result in the highest value recovery from the boards.

The AddVantage provides improved grading consistency and higher value or recovery - less good wood in the waste conveyor. The AddVantage Chop Saw Optimizer has experienced strong growth with systems supplied to the millwork, window and door industries.

The AddVantage Rip Scan Optimizer scans wide boards and flitches to determine the optimum rip board combination. Both chop and rip optimizers use a common database facilitating product and machine set-up, and to generate the production cutlist to operate the systems. For operations that integrate multiple machine centers this provides a feedback loop for controlling cutlist prioritization, with database control from any machine workstation. Rip scan logic encompasses chop scan logic for every board solution, achieving the best value optimization in support of the mill’s cutting requirements.

The AddVantage products utilize economical four-sided multi-spectral vision, infrared laser geometric profile and optional patented x-ray density measurement to identify and classify a wide range of characteristics. They provide high resolution scanning, at speeds up to 600 feet per minute and can perform optimization for single and multiple sawing lines in softwood and hardwood applications.
