Planermill Optimization
Linear
High Grader (LHG)
Your complete automated grading solution
|
The Linear High Grader (LHG) is an automated grading machine for
the planermill. LHG with DataFusion™ offers a true technical solution
in the quest for fully automated grading. It integrates various
complementary technologies to yield a highly accurate lumber grading
system.
Newnes-McGehee's (NM) approach is to scan the fiber in a single
pass with several sensor technologies, then compare and verify the
data from the differing technologies to achieve a highly accurate
decision. We call this approach DataFusion.

The
vision cameras see a hole, but our
multiple technology DataFusion approach
with x-ray tells us it's a pitch pocket.

Technologies
employed include x-rays for density evaluation, lasers for geometric profile
measurements, and 4-sided multi-channel vision to detect visual characteristics.
The combination of these technologies allows classification and verification
of lumber defects such as knots, stain, splits and shake, wane, rot, etc.
and pith location down the entire length of the piece.
The simple, modular design of the LHG accepts all or a portion of these
technologies within the unit's framework. Customers can elect to install
a base geometric unit, then easily add additional technologies as their
needs and budget dictate.
The LHG also offers MSR/MEL strength classification, wane evaluation,
and skip control with the highest scan density in the industry in a very
small footprint.
