Planermill Sorter Systems
Vertical Bin Sorter
The Vertical Bin Sorter is one of the most successful sawmill products
developed by Newnes-McGehee. It has continued to evolve with the addition
of Live Bin Walls and WinTally sorter management software to become the
industry standard, and a benchmark for quality. Newnes-McGehee offers
Sorters in J Bar, Pusher Lug or Drag Chain configurations, each capable
of speeds up to 200 lpm.
In addition to Vertical Bin Sorters, we offer Slant Bin Sorters, Horizontal Tray and Slant Tray Sorters for specialty applications.
J Bar Sorter
Our J Bar Sorter is superior to all other designs for Planermill applications which have 4" or thicker product. Lumber is sorted at high speed, but handled gently to preserve its value. Various chain and hook configurations are available to suit individual mill products and speeds.
- Long range photo-eyes monitor the J Bar Sorter for jams or cross ups
- Automatic shut down feature prevents damage to machinery and lumber from jams
Sorter Bins / Live Bin Walls
In over 20 years in the lumber sorter business, we have produced hundreds of Bin Sorters for all applications, from the smallest Planermill package to the largest Sawmill package. Our Sorters feature many options including "soft drop" bin fill geometry, patented "live bin walls", bin dividers, UHMW wall and floor treatments and Bin Restraint devices.
Pusher Lug and Drag Chain Sorters
We offer Pusher Lug and Drag Chain Sorters for many applications, such as in high speed Studmills. These sorters run at speeds to 200 lugs per minute for 2x3, 2x4 and 2x6, and can be configured to eliminate a bin chaser, by automating the bin spilling and tracking functions or locating the bin controls at the stacker.
Tray Sorters
Newnes-McGehee
offers Tray Sorters for customers who require very delicate handling of
their specialty wood products. Trays can be fed with inclines or elevators,
and can be configured with or without a pull chain below.
Prime Sort Line
Our Prime Sort Line allows an additional product or sort to divert off the end of the Sorter directly to a second Stacker, without ever falling into a bin. Typically, a predominant grade of lumber is diverted through the Prime Sort line, while all non-predominant grades are dropped into the bins. Alternatively, a Prime Sort line can be used for delicate or high grade products.
- Preserve value of lumber by reducing the possibility of damage
- Better throughput and bin capacity
- Several configurations depending on mill preference and available
space
Bin Discharge Decks
The Newnes-McGehee Bin Discharge Deck (also known as "haul out chains")
design uses tube steel chainway construction and slack loop headends.
This configuration allows for easy cleanup and low profile design. UHMW
Chanex is used to ensure long chain life and low operating horsepower
requirement.
