FEATURES

USNR stocks nearly 10,000 different items and maintains about $15 million worth of spare parts inventory in five North American warehouses in the U.S. and Canada, so we can ship most parts orders the same day.

USNR offers finely crafted fabricated or cast replacement bandmill wheels in a variety of materials.

“Sawmills today want to be technically supported, and we have access to all the technical expertise, engineering and resources to do that very well,” says Sylvain Boucher, who has been with the company for 22 years.

Decades of chipping system design experience have produced the True Flow knife system, which was designed using sophisticated 3D solid modeling CAD software.
USNR parts are covered by a factory warranty that covers workmanship for a minimum of 12 months.

USNR Parts, At Your Service.

Many people in the industry know USNR as a sawmill machinery manufacturer, but may not realize the extent to which we manufacture and stock replacement parts and components that keep sawmills running day after day.

In fact, we stock nearly 10,000 different part numbers for USNR equipment including Perceptron, Forano, Log Boss, Inovec, HEMCO, Irvington-Moore, Kockums, Schurman, Lunden and even some competitors. When you add custom manufactured parts to that, in any given year we sell more than 20,000 different items, making USNR a real “one-stop parts shop.” Besides parts that we manufacture ourselves, we also keep on hand other items you need regularly, like bearings, valves, belts, chain, and cylinders.

“We have a massive product line and legacy of equipment going back into the 1950’s,” said Shirley Lawrence, Parts and Conversions Manager at USNR headquarters in Woodland, WA. "We maintain engineering drawings for every machine ever manufactured by USNR and its subsidiaries," she added. This means that replacement parts, even for equipment manufactured decades ago, will be manufactured to original specifications every time.

USNR has been in business nearly 40 years, with some business units tracing their roots back more than 130 years. “One of the things that differentiates USNR,” according to Sylvain Boucher, Parts Manager in Plessisville, QC, “is that as an OEM we have access to the engineering data and technology from each of the brand names represented by USNR.”

USNR has tremendous capabilities with direct access to a large inventory and responsive engineering and manufacturing teams. “It allows us to provide a better customer response and quicker turn around,” Shirley explained. “For example, in a couple of emergency situations we've been able to turn around a basic arbor in less than 24 hours. We do whatever it takes to solve the problem and get the mill back up and running again.”

Keith Fulmer, Parts Manager of USNR in Hot Springs, AR expresses a similar commitment, “I tell my customers that we’re in the industry together, so if they’re not doing well, we can’t do well either. You don’t have to have a million dollar piece of machinery to get us to call you back, and if we don’t have what you need, we’ll help you find it.”

USNR is dedicated to helping mills respond to adverse market conditions by targeting cost effective areas in the mill that can be repaired or upgraded. For example, USNR conducts educational seminars on chipper maintenance and performance enhancement. Sylvain explains, “A chipper in a mill is often just considered a trash can, but we’re showing our customers that when the machine runs well, it’ll put money in their pockets.”

Alan Robbins, Sales Manager in USNR’s Jacksonville, FL office notes, “Our product history covers USNR Kilns, Irvington-Moore Kilns, Moore Dry Kilns, and even Standard Dry Kilns. We carry parts for all of these product lines, and can service any controller whether it uses a computer, or electronic or vapor tension instruments. We can still calibrate those old Moore-Coe instruments."

USNR processes around 75 parts orders every day, and ships them all over the world. “One of the biggest changes I’ve seen over the years has been the globalization of our business,” Shirley explained. “It’s very challenging because more than ever now, we’re dealing with customers all over the world which involves different time zones, different currencies and different languages.”

Here's what some of our customers are saying:

“USNR is probably one of our top providers as far as responsiveness and service quality goes. We have a very good relationship.” – Andre McMillan, Maintenance Manager of Simpson Timber in Shelton, WA.

"USNR is always prompt when returning calls and getting price quotes to us. They try to get us the parts before we actually need them." – Jesse Mathews, Purchashing Agent for MeadWestvaco in Cottonton, AL.

“I’ve always had full satisfaction with the USNR parts department. I think they’re a very professional and dedicated group. The response is always good, and the prices and quality are excellent. I recommend them highly.” – Wayne Morris, Purchasing Agent for Carrier Forest Products in Prince George, B.C.

“One of the things we prize about working with USNR is that you can get good diagrams and good technical information, and that’s very important to us.”Charlie Garrott, Maintenance Superintendent at Simpson Timber in Tacoma, WA.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Shirley Lawrence is the Parts and Conversions Manager for USNR operating out of the Woodland, WA headquarters office. She has worked for the company 22 years, coming to USNR through the acquisition of CSMI in 1996.

Shirley was originally introduced to the world of sawmilling as a purchasing agent for West Fraser in Quesnel, B.C. After four years, she moved to Vancouver, B.C. and stopped by the Kockums-CanCar office one day, to say hello to the people she had developed business friendships with. They asked her to stick around and work for them.

So in 1985, Shirley began her career in sawmill parts sales with Kockums-Cancar, which later became part of CSMI. "I've been able to succeed at this job, because it’s different every day and it’s really interesting," she says. "You get to talk to people all over the country and the world, to help them solve their problems."

Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Shirley likes to garden and play golf in her spare time.

NEW PROJECTS

USNR says Thank You to our customers for the new orders.

We appreciate your continued loyalty and pledge to continue earning it!

Beasley Forest Products of Hazlehurst, GA recently ordered a USNR 3D LASAR scanning and optimization system to be installed on a Cone Machinery carriage. The company is strategically located within five miles of three major rivers which provides them with an abundant supply of hardwood. The high production hardwood sawmill specializes in producing quality hardwood lumber.

Forest Enterprises Australia (FEA) of Tasmania, Australia, has placed an order for a USNR 3D Smart TriCam cant scanning and optimization system on an Optimil lineal canter. The company recently added a trimmer/sorter optimizer to the order, along with optimized log sorting capability. The mill processes plantation-grown Eucalyptus.

Hawkeye Forest Products has purchased a USNR YieldMaster G3 carriage optimizer for the existing carriage at its mill in Trepeauleau, WI. The second-generation family run business processes various hardwoods into lumber.

Kiwi Lumber in Masterton, NZ, ordered a USNR Smart TriCam 3D scanning and optimization system through Skookum Forest Technology, one of USNR's New Zealand based partners. The mill processes Radiata pine logs for local and export markets.

Lassister Lumber of Silas, AL, recently bought a new USNR package kiln to dry a high-quality (prime) product for export. The mill processes Southern Yellow Pine, but the USNR package-style kiln will dry it more slowly and produce fewer defects than traditional high-temp kilns. The company also uses HEMCO (USNR) and Irvington Moore (USNR) high-temp dry kilns to dry dimension lumber, and will expand the existing Kiln Boss computer system to include the new kiln. Lassister Lumber is a third-generation family-run business.

Lauzon Forest Resources of Thurso, Quebec, placed an order for a USNR 3D LASAR carriage scanning and optimization system. This is a hybrid sawmill that will produce both random width boards sold per the NHLA grading rules and custom size orders for industrial clients. Lauzon plans to increase the mill’s production from 30 million to 54 million board feet annually, and intends to reduce production costs by 40 percent.

Rex Lumber has purchased a new USNR Triple Length Continuous (TLC) dry kiln system complete with green fuel burner for its Graceville, FL, plant. The mill is also extending the length of an existing USNR dry kiln to convert it to a second TLC kiln at the same site. The existing Kiln Boss computerized control system will be expanded to accommodate the new kilns. Rex Lumber is adding extra drying capacity to handle the additional production expected from implementing a second shift. Click here to read more about the TLC kiln.

Spray Lake Sawmills has invested in a USNR edger optimizer upgrade on the existing system in its Cochrane, AB, mill. The order also includes an upgrade from Dynavision M6 sensors to the Dynavision B800 sensors. The upgrade allows the mill to stay up to date with current technology and reap the benefits provided by ever-increasing computer power and improved software.

Summit Forest Products, located in Markleysburg, PA, recently purchased a 3D Smart TriCam optimizer system to use with their new lineal edger/gang from T.S. Manufacturing.

Weyerhaeuser in Wright City, OK, ordered a USNR 3D Smart TriCam scanning and optimization upgrade on an existing double length infeed. This order is very similar to an upgrade performed at the Aberdeen, WA mill last year. High-performance computer hardware with faster operating speeds will permit the mill to realize the benefits of the latest version of MillExpert optimization software. Running optimizers on a modern commercial grade computer system will allow the mill to take advantage of a host of advanced software features.
